GO! Scholengroep Brussel

GO! Scholengroep Brussel is one of the 26 major school groups of the Flemish Community Education system (GO!). We manage all GO! Education institutions in the Brussels-Capital Region, consisting of 33 nurseries, 38 pre-school kindergartens and primary schools (amongst which 1 UNESCO school), 17 secondary schools (general and vocational training, including also 2 UNESCO schools), 5 part-time art schools, 2 centres for adult education, 3 boarding schools and 1 pupils guidance centre. We have about 3.200 staff members and 23.800 pupils. The school group is managed by a general manager, a board of directors and a board of headmasters. GO! Scholengroep Brussel supports all of our (over 60) schools in Brussels in administrative, financial, infrastructural and human resource matters in order for them to be able to focus on their educational task. However, it is the school group that has the real management in hands, which means that we set out the policies and guidelines for all our schools. Over the years we have set up a variety of umbrella projects on different topics: equal opportunities in education, critical thinking, digitalisation, VET, CLIL etc. These projects help us develop forward-looking policies and enhance the quality of our education. Through our quality system, we make sure to disseminate new approaches, good practices, innovative insights and EU priorities to all educational institutions and help them implement these through our educational policies and in line with their own school vision and policy. The pedagogical services of GO! offer support on-the-job for teachers and guidance on management level. These services also include in-service training and pedagogic counselling. Quality comes first, and we therefore invest in strengthening the competences and 21st century skills not only of our pupils but also of our teachers and other staff. As a part of the Flemish Community Education, GO! Scholengroep Brussel endorses the project for Teaching and Learning (Pedagogic Project of GO!) which fosters full personal development, social responsibility and mutual respect and understanding. We intend to achieve this by organising diversified education with a broad-based interest in cultural events, both at home and abroad. This approach will stimulate learners to reflect objectively and consciously about their actions. GO! Scholengroep Brussel is bound to adhere to a neutral and respectful attitude towards the philosophical, ideological and religious beliefs of pupils and parents. It allows pupils either to attend lessons in moral ethics or one of the following religions: Roman, Catholic, Islamic, Jewish, Anglican, Orthodox or Protestant. Educating youngsters on how to cope with this diversity gives our teaching activities added value. Therefore, we consider social mix as a duty and promote active citizenship and participation through projects, integrated working periods, world education, cultural events and pupils’ councils.
